I opened an excel file that I received as an attachment in windows mail and
after working on it , when I closed it I was asked if I wanted to save the
changes on it and I accepted. When I then open the attachement again , it
still shows mw the version without the changes. Where was the file with the
changes saved whn I accepted them? I guess that it should be in some
temporary folder or system folder , but I am aunable to find it , so I only
keep the original version of the file now!

You should always save the attachment to disk, close the email, go to the
saved file, then open it, if you want to edit it.

The file is probably located in a folder somewhere in
C:\Users\(youraccount)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5
