I recently bought a new (actually a 2 or 3 yr. old Compaq) computer and
it has Vista Home OS. I used the Microsoft transfer program and
successfully moved most data to new PC. (Old PC was XP), However, I am
having problems with mail. I use an older Outlook and I cannot send now
but I can receive emails. I tried Windows mail and it will not open. I
also used Outlook Express on my old computer. I think the problem is
related to having some outlook express and Outlook data files hat
tranferred over to the new PC and now the PC (amd I) is confusd as to
what email, adress book, etc, to use. Plus through explorer I noticed
that I have a ton single files of what I believe are all of my
individual contacts. This may be related to my problem. You collective
help will be greatly appreciated.

Windows Mail stores each contact, and each email message, as a separate
file.

To make an icon for opening Windows Mail, go to your desktop, then
double click on Computer, then C:, then Program Files, then scroll down
the list to Windows Mail and double click on it, then right click on
WinMail.exe if you see it on the list or WinMail otherwise, right click on
it,
then click on Create Shortcut, approve putting it on your desktop, then
close the window created during this procedure.

You should check your Outbox for messages you've been trying to send.
If you find any, either move them to the Drafts folder or delete them.  If
this
works, restart Windows Mail and send yourself a short message.  If any
message refuses to either move or be deleted, let us know.

Any error message when you try to send? If so, post it here.

Outlook Express & Outlook are two completely different apps
Only Outlook 2003/2007 is fully compatible with Vista
Outlook has to be setup in order to transfer its data to either OE or Mail

I eliminated the messages from the outbox of Outlook. I realized Outlook
(some old version) was not compatible with Vista and downloaded Windows
Live Mail. I imported contacts from old Outlook and it seems to be
working. A little quirky though, but since still Beta, I figure it will
straighten out as a few weeks or months pass.

If the version you got is still beta, try this version, which isn't:

Windows Live Mail has not been in beta since November 5, 2007.
The current released build is 12.0.1606.
