Everytime I try to insert a file into an email, the program shuts down
completely. No error message or any other indication.

Windows Mail just shuts down.

I'm running Vista on a new Dell computer, slightly less than 1 yr old.

My other email program - Microsoft Office Outlook has no problem.

Any ideas?

Windows Mail has problems attaching a file that is still open in some
other program, so try closing down any other programs that have used
or created the file.

Also, interference from antivirus programs causes a variety of problems
in Windows Mail, so what if any antivirus programs do you have?

I have AVG 7.5 and Windows Defender.... BTW - This problem only started
recently.

If you did the standard install for AVG, it often helps to uninstall it,
then do
a custom install where you tell it to leave out the part that scans email.

Windows Defender is an antispyware program instead of an antivirus program,
so it won't give you the problems caused by having more than one antivirus
program installed at a time.  You can, however, have more than one
antispyware
program installed at a time without problems.
