Windows Security Pop up while sending email

Thread rating: |
sircheel - 25 May 2008 08:18 GMT I manually configured the email provided by my web host using Windows Mail. It was working properly until recently this week, it cannot send any emails anymore. I DID NOT CHANGE anything in the configuration. Everytime I send emails, it keeps on prompting me Windows Security asking for the Username & Password.
I typed my username & password correctly BUT it keeps on prompting me the same pop up. The username & password I entered are all correct. Sometimes it gives me this error message:
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'Suruga Admin', Server: 'srv6.890m.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: 000webhost.com', Account: 'Christopher P. Lee', Server: 'srv6.890m.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Here's a screenshot of my problem: http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/5034/errorpg7.gif
I already ask for customer support of my web host, but they checked the email and it's working properly. I asked for another customer support in HP & they told me that I need to re-create the email accounts which I did, still it's not working.
Posting here is the last help I can think of, hope anyone can help me out....Thanks.

Some email servers insist that you enter your username with no spaces and no CAPITAL LETTERS. Some insist that you follow it with the part of your email address that starts with @, and some insist that you don't. Many insist that you use CAPITAL and lowercase letters in the right places in your password. Many give error messages that are unclear on which of these problems have occured, if any of them, if there's some problem with your username of password.
sircheel - 25 May 2008 11:15 GMT So, it means that for the Email username instead of + i'll try the @? Does this also mean that I have to do trial and error on using Init Caps on my username and password?
Still I don't get it....How will I solve this problem?

Your username should work if you enter all of it in lowercase, but your password needs to be entered however it was set up as to which letters are CAPITAL and which are lowercase.

Vistalover - 25 May 2008 14:05 GMT Don't forget numbers. If you need help generating a password, look at the Vista gadgets online. There is a password generator. Makes passwords in symbols, letters, and numbers. No more guessing and it will be encrypted to 164 bit.

My password is alphanumeric in lowercase. I already changed it and tried using other passwords but still it won't stop prompting me the security popup.

Gary VanderMolen - 25 May 2008 22:20 GMT The error messages you included are for a different problem than the security popup issue. So, you may have two separate problems. That mail server belongs to a webhosting company. In my experience, webhosts seldom support port 465. Are you sure about that port? Unfortunately, port 25 will probably not work either, since your ISP will block it. Why not use the SMTP server belonging to your ISP?

The error message only appears when I click CANCEL on the security popup but when I enter my Username & Password then click OK, it will keep prompting me the popup with no error message.
I used 465 for SSL because the outgoing server needs authentication. I tried port 25 but it gives me an error message. But for port 465, it was working properly before...I can send and receive emails with NO security popup.
Here's the Manual Setting: Mail Server Username: chris.lee+suruga-it.com Incoming Mail Server: mail.suruga-it.com Incoming Mail Server: (SSL) srv6.890m.com Outgoing Mail Server: mail.suruga-it.com (server requires authentication) port 25 Outgoing Mail Server: (SSL) srv6.890m.com (server requires authentication) port 465 Supported Incoming Mail Protocols: POP3, POP3S (SSL/TLS), IMAP, IMAPS (SSL/TLS) Supported Outgoing Mail Protocols: SMTP, SMTPS (SSL/TLS)

Gary VanderMolen - 26 May 2008 19:12 GMT I don't see any obvious mistakes. The malfunctioning account may have become corrupt, so try deleting it, restarting Windows Mail, then recreating that account. If no joy, one workaround is to replace srv6.890m.com with mail.suruga-it.com as the outgoing mail server in that malfunctioning account. You would also need to change the port from 465 to 25, and use the custom SMTP authentication settings.

Now, the security popup is gone BUT I'm receiving this error again:
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'Suruga.Admin', Server: 'mail.suruga-it.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Note: It takes like 20sec. displaying "FINDING HOST..." then another 20secs. "CONNECTING..." then there's the ERROR MESSAGE....
I have a COMODO firewall & my anti-virus is AVG 7.5
How to solve this?

If so, it will be less likely to cause problems in Windows Mail if you uninstall it, then do a custom install where you tell it to leave out the part that scans email.

Also, have you ever had a Norton or McAfee antivirus program on that computer? If so, their uninstall procedures often fail to remove the parts of them that cause problems in Windows Mail.
