For past week have not been able to receive e mails, though can send. I
can get them on old laptop, running xp and I can log in to web base
email. I have tried reloading accounts etc. The techies dont know why
and say its nothing to do with the server. The error message each time
is  :
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.candw.lc',
Server: 'pop.candw.lc', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Any ideas,
Jan

The problem IS with your server settings, authentication, port numbers and/or
SSL.  Be sure you have set everything exactly as your server has instructed.
Also, any of you using ATT (sbcglobal.net...,etc) should read their updates
for e-mail clients.  They have initiated some radical changes.

Is your ISP different from the domain for your e-mail server?

If you haven't set your email programs to leave a copy of the
messages on the server after downloading a copy, only the
first email program to download messages after they arrive
will get a copy.

Window mail worked fine for a couple of days after I switched from Outlook
Express to the new computer but suddenly it just throws up error messages.
Nothing was changed in my account.  Any advice?

Our crystal ball is a bit cloudy.
It would be helpful if you copied the complete error message and posted
it here.

Make sure your settings agree with this:
http://support.cwxnet.com/old/faq_2.php?cat=2#q1

Which antivirus are you running? Some of them are not compatible
with Windows Mail. As a minimum, disable its email scanning.

I have experienced the same problme since the 22 May. I have reconfigured my
account as per other users, all to no avail. Can anyone else help.

Are you connecting to the same email provider as those other users?
If not, copying their setting is likely to fail to help you.

What email provider are you trying to use?

Starting more than one thread about the same problem seldom gets you help
any faster,
and may even make it slower.

I just started having this problem also.  the error message is as follows:

The connection to the server has failed. Account:
'pop-server.tampabay.rr.com', Server: 'pop-server.tampabay.rr.com', Protocol:
POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number:
0x800CCC0E.

I have had the computer for a month and have had no problems receiving
email.  I have not made any changes to the settings.

Can anyone help me?

See if your account fits these instructions:

Also, what if any antivirus program do you have, and have you ever
had a Norton or McAfee antivirus program on that computer?  Some
of them cause assorted problems in Windows Mail, although seldom
immediately.

No,I don't have McAfee or Norton on this computer yet.

Then what if any antivirus programs do you have?  A recent version
of the Trend antivirus program causes problems in Windows Mail.
Also, many new computers come with a trial version of a Norton
or McAfee antivirus program already installed, and just uninstalling
them often fails to remove the parts of them that cause problems in
Windows Mail.

It's pretty difficult to buy a new computer without it having a trial  version
of some antivirus installed. Do you have any antivirus now, or did you
have one when that computer was new? If so, which antivirus?

Am back, having been away for a few days. Still have same problem, have
norton anti virus pre installed but not activated, we run Free AVG. Have
disabled email scanner bit. This problem only occured once service pack1
was installed. Someone suggested that maybe our server, cable and
wireless havent updated their bit.

Thanks for confirming that even an unactivated Norton program
can mess up Windows Mail.
