i turned on logging for mail and imap commands.... where are the log files?

Those files should be in the store folder directory. For the exact location,
in Windows Mail go to Tools, Options, Advanced, Maintenance, Store Folder.

Strange. I just enabled Mail logging, and the file Pop3.log appeared in
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail.
Make sure your Folder Options are set to show hidden files.
