I have just purchased a new computer with vista on it.
I have always used bigpond as my server. I can't seem to be able to set up
my normal email address. In the set up it tells me it is not recognised. My
server is mail@bigpond.com
I don't have outlook on vista and I have been told by Telstra that I need
outlook.
How can I get out outlook? I have a windows XP disc from my old computer but
I don't know if I can load that and not ruin vista.
Please help?

mail@bigpond.com is not a normal server name; it looks more like an email
address.

See if these help:

Your ISP's tech support is incompetent. You don't need Outlook.

Server for bigpond is mail.bigpond.com

You can use Vista Mail which is like outlook express.

Hazel,
I believe Robert Miles has beaten me to it but here is another link to
setting up BigPond mail service in Outlook Express for Windows XP. Windows
Mail setup in Windows Vista is very similar: http://tinyurl.com/7b2rm  . You
do not need Outlook.
