Despite having digital certificates (IDs) all in place and able to receive
and send signed emails between other email recipients, and recipients being
able to read my encrypted emails at their end - upon receiving encrypted
emails in Microsoft Mail (Vista Home Premium) they always end up blank with a
P7M attachment. Sure I can buy tools to display P7M encrypted attachments,
but according to MS help - provided exchange of digital certificates has
occurred and Digital Certs added to address book, you should be able to see
encrypted emails just like any other? Anyone got any ideas - not found
anything in KB to resolve it?

thanks

Sorry, I don't think we have anyone here who is an expert in
digitally signed/encrypted email.

mmmm......shame - there must be someone out there !! It all worked just fine
in XP - never had that issue until upgrading to Vista. The help documentation
doesn't allude to anything I am not doing or have not set. Normally once you
have associated certs at sender and recipient ends, you can read the emails
in plain text in your email client. I've even looked for plug-ins but there
doesn't appear to be any. The help documentation doesn't indicate you need
anything. Mightily odd!!!

cheers

I use digitally signed/encrypted email in Windows Mail under Vista Home
Premium with no problems.  I simply copied over my certs, installed them,
and then used them.  I didn't run into any problems.  It just worked!

I don't know what to offer as help.  Since you say that you have the certs
and that they were working just fine under XP.  I just set up the certs as I
did in XP (minor menu differences for Vista).

thanks Dick - I am at a loss !! Been using digi certs with XP for a few years
never had an issue. The problem only appears to be at my Vista PC end - I can
send encrypted email from my Vista PC to my works PC which uses XP and Lotus
Notes (having exchanged certs and added to address books either end) - and I
can read them ok at the XP machine. Incoming emails from that works XP PC and
any other XP PCs just tag the email as being encrypted when I receive them at
my home Vista PC (showing lock symbol) but won't display anything in the
body........just blank with a smime.p7m attachment. Wierd. Must be something
simple but I'll be damned if I can fathom it!!!
