Windows Media Player is for Music and Video
Windows Photo Gallery and the Pictures folder handle images
You should be able to add meta data information by indivdually selecting
each file and click the Edit Properties link on the Properties bar.

WMP has Photo Gallery features since v10, which are still in v11. They
just happen to be AWFUL since there isn't a way to manage the images
separate to your music/video files. So, for instance, my interesting
photos are completely swamped by thousands of album art files for CDs
and stationery-type gifs etc for web-pages.
