I don't know how helpful this will be, but I've noticed that how I search
affects what I'm allowed to see in Vista. For example, if I go to Pictures
via a hard drive icon, I don't see everything. But if I go through the icon
for my user account, stuff shows up. Bit bizarre, but it helped me figure out
what was happening when I used older software like WinRAR that isn't exactly
Vista-aware.
