My Vista Home Premium system has recently developed a curious behavior. When
I go to the Pictures folder and select a folder containing pictures I used to
be able to select Slideshow and see a slideshow. I used to be able to select
Print and print a picture. No more. Nothing happens. The other commands still
work. I can click on Preview and Windows Photo Gallery opens and displays a
picture. If I click on the slideshow icon in PhotoGallery I get a slideshow
and if I click Print I get a print. Any ideas why the Slideshow and Print
buttons have died in the Explorer window?

Hi JimTom,

Issues of this nature are often caused by third-party shell extensions. H

1. Open Regedit.exe and navigate to:

   HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

2. Rename "ContextMenuHandlers" to "ContextMenuHandlers-"

3. Similarly rename the "ContextMenuHandlers" key here:

   HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

4. Close Regedit.exe

See if the Slideshow link in the Tasks pane work. If it works, then this is most likely caused by a third-party context menu handler. Let me know how it goes, and we shall proceed accordingly and determine the culprit.

Shell extension problems:

(Here are some articles that I wrote for Windows XP)

"Play All" link in the Common Tasks does not work:

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers:

Thanks for the reply. You found it. I made the changes you described in the
registry and now both the Slideshow and Print buttons work. Next step?

Nice! See "Method 2" here:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/slowrightclick.htm
(Ignore the article title).

Also, make sure that you run ShellExView as an administrator (Right-click shexview.exe and choose "Run as Administrator")

The second Context Menu item I disabled fixed the problem. It is called
DOPMenu. It is a part of DXO Labs DXO Optics Pro 4.0. Will this change affect
the DXO program. It is a program I use regularly. What is needed to fix the
problem? Should I contact the developer?

>> Will this change affect the DXO program.

The program's functionality should not be affected (in most cases). You only lose the context menu option provided by the corresponding software.

>> Should I contact the developer?

Yes. If an uninstall/reinstall does not help, you may look for an updated version.
