Windows Forum / Windows Vista / Music, Photo, Video / May 2008Where did my DVD playback sound go in Windows Media Player 11?
I have no idea what happened between yesterday and today because all of a sudden Windows Media Player will play my DVD's but there is no sound. It will play CD's just fine, sound and all. I opened the same DVD in Nero Showtime and it plays fine. I don't get it. Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions? I hope I don't sound amateur here but how do I disable it? I traced it to the folder it's in, right clicked on it and opened the Properties dialog box but I don't see how to disable it. The Nero ones -- can you update to the current build of Nero? The current Nero is at least 4.9.4.1 , and supposedly has Vista compatibility fixes. Do you have a suggestion? I have the exact same issue. To watch a DVD I need to use Nero. If I use WMP I get no sound. Is there an issue with the installation of Nero? Is Vista missing some settings for sound in WMP? I had this exact same problem, after two sessions with MS support online, we found that in the sound control panel in the properties of the playback device on the supported formats tab, the encoded formats had an incompatible format selected.
