The screen saver kicks in after 5 minutes when watching video or playing
music in Media Player.  The "Allow screen saver during playback" checkbox is
cleared in the player options but has no effect.

I am using standard vista screen savers and I do not have password
protection enabled.  I have customized my power profile but not in any way
which should cause this.  I am using Vista Home Premium OEM (Media Centre is
not affected by this problem).

I've seen reports like this just frequently enough that this implies that
there may be a bug here, but I can't reproduce this.

What exact screensaver is selected?
Does it happen for audio-only content?
Does it happen if you set the screen saver to kick in after 1 minute?
Are there multiple user accounts on this machine?   Is anyone else logged
in?
Is Aero/Glass enabled?
Is UAC still set up as normal (turned on)?
Are you in skin, deskband, or full mode?
Is this a 64bit or 32bit system?

Those questions are meant to be starting points - I'm not certain why it's
not turning on for you, but I'm interesting in figuring that out.

Looking into this, it seems most likely to be a concern if there's some
level of permissions issue where WMP isn't able to touch screensaver
properties.  Your answers to the above questions may be illuminative.

Thanks for your help here,

Zach,
I have had the same kind of problem with my legit 32-bit Vista Ultimate
retail upgrade license. What LemonGalaxy may have done is unchecked the
"allow screen saver during playback" box AFTER disabling UAC. If you do this
BEFORE disabling UAC, it will not be a problem.

What I did was simply to re-enable UAC, reboot, change the screen saver to
something else, and click OK. Then I went back into the screen saver window
and changed it back. Only after doing so did I disable UAC again. That said,
I know that Microsoft does not recommend disabling UAC, but power users like
me access Windows system functions far too often and know about and implement
other security applications to overcome the incessant pop-ups and whatever
breach in system security that disabling it may introduce....rant over.

This has only been a problem for me while playing any kind of media in WMP11
in window view, not full screen. I have not checked for this problem in Media
Center but I suspect it's not present. Aero Glass is fully enabled; my
Windows Experience Index is 3.1.

Cheers
