I updated some things on my windows media player page...
including some skins that make wmp10 look like wmp11 and
some stand alone wmp11 clones

Howdy... I'm operating here on my own time and speaking for myself as
always.
Please check your e-mail. I can't even begin to explain how horrible that
is in my eyes, even if you ignore the obvious legal aspects. I'll wait a
reasonable amount of time and if it's not resolved before then, I will need
to involve legal. What you're doing is going to corrupt people's systems.
I'm working to make the WMP11 installer rock-solid, and what you're doing
pretty much just stabs me in the back. I respect that you're an excited
enthusiast, but you don't have a right to do this and it's an absolutely
horrible broken idea. The binaries for Vista and XP are not compatible with
each other... your random snapshot of the bits is frightening at best.

I know what you mean, Zach. It's really best that you stick to the skin
making Kenny instead, because there's very little risk in that, and I've
checked out the skins and they look pretty damn good!!
Just let the professionals' work on WMP11 yeh :o)

Hello Zach
I removed it due to your request once I saw your email. As I said on my
site, I had not tried this
hack.. I just found it on the internet and posted it because someone would
might want to experiment.
I did note that this was unsupported and risky.
Let me repeat this. This was not my hack. I dont even remember where I found
it,
and I did not try it myself! I want my computers to be stable :-)
Since you know that this will cause a problem I removed it...
I did this because I understand, even though you had a tone
of a "threat" in your email. This was unwarranted.
I like technology probably more than you do... and I want the best for
everyone.
No stabing in the back intended. I do respect your work...
and you should do your best to make wmp11 the best player of all times.
By the way, is there a beta of wmp11 coming out? And if so when?

Thanks. =)
Well, I figured it could be handled coolly, but ... worst case scenario
where there was some hitch here, I really would owe it to you and every
other user to get this stopped immediately. It's really bad stuff. So I
apologize if you felt threatened, but at the same time I hope you can
respect that that software was about the worst possible thing somebody could
distribute. Not bad towards my ego or pride (I don't really have those
issues), but to the *users*. I'm working on making WMP11 as rock-solid as
possible, and that package was a gut-shot of cr*p that contaminates the
systems of people who are supposed to care about WMP - so the very people
you and I want providing good feedback... those people get boned for no
understandable reason. The WMP11 installer is light-years better than the
WMP10 installer, but even so it likely won't be able to recover from a
system corrupted with that broken package. So... yeah. Bad news. Thanks
very much for quickly killing it.
I'm under NDA so can't comment about the dates. WMP11 for Windows XP has
been previously confirmed in the MS / Urge press release, among other items,
I believe. I can't really provide you any information you don't know of or
can't garner from other sites, but I'm not aware of any major release of the
player ever that didn't have a beta. Are you in the Vista beta program?
That's probably the quickest way to get your hands on WMP11.* =)
-Zach
* But as noted the Vista bits are *only* for Vista - my XP binaries will run
on Vista, but my Vista binaries on XP will either not run or do bad things
since they're expecting the system-wide Vista updates
