Recording TV Issues using Two TV Tuners

I have a m8010y HP Multimedia computer using Vista Ultimate.   The computer
came with two TV tuners.

Both of the tuners were recognized during Windows Media Center setup.  When
attempting to record TV programs most of the time WMC records the right
program but 30% of the time it does not.

I find very little information addressing issues associated with PCs running
two TV tuners.

Is this a software issue and/or poor interface between the PC and the cable
setup box?

Do you have 2  cable STBs, since 1 STB can only output one program at a
time, so that you can feed each tuner with a separate program signal?

One cable feed to a splitter with coax to the two TV Tuners.   I have
successfully recorded two programs at the same time and was able to watch one
live.  That is not the problem but WMC not consistently recording the correct
program.

I am confused since AFAIK your STB can only output one selected program
signal at a time over its coax RF output interface. If so, all you are doing
is feeding the same program to both of your tuners.
Or does your cable STB box also have recording capabilites that you are
possibly using? Or does your cable STB possibly have the option to just pass
through the raw cable connection that it is receiving from the wall as if it
was not even there.
