Peter G Williams - 07 Nov 2007 11:35 GMT I'm seeing exactly the same thing, only I get to 32% before it fails! I'm working with Vista 32 Ultimate. Any suggestions?

Until I find a more permanent solution( thats what I'm looking for now) I recomvert the files with another video converter and they work fine. The one I'm using I got at http://www.protectedsoft.com/download.php Its a freeware download and I've used it for a while now with no problems. I hope it works for you guys.

I was so excited that Moviemaker now allowed you to burn DVD's (Office 2003 did not, which was an incredibly STUPID bit of programming) and then plummeted to the depths of despair with each failed attempt at burning the DVD, getting to 16-20% encoded each time. Once, once only, I managed to get the whole thing done only to find the completed DVD had large holes with no data at all in it!!!
I even tried transferring to another computer running Adobe editor which allows you to burn DVD's and which I have used succesfully in the past, but Office 2003 doesn't recognized WSAMM files created with Office 2007. Makes you want to scream. I will try the converter file suggested on this post.

dmbr - 17 Dec 2007 00:12 GMT Further to the suggestions above- I treid downlaoding the video converter and DVD making software from protectedsoft.com however the programme does not recognize the Movie maker file - ie it tell sme there is nothing on the timeline (Osec). I tried downloading the Vista codecs as suggested but that made no difference.
Even more frustrating, the Windows DVDmaker help suggested I check that my edited project runs on Windows Media Player...but that programme doesn't recognize the MSWMM extension. Can you believe it?
Any one help?

zachd [MSFT] - 21 Dec 2007 11:38 GMT The MSWMM is the project file. You need to save the movie from the project, which will result in a WMV file.

Tara - 06 Feb 2008 23:53 GMT Hello, I am having the same problem with the encoding. I have only made it to 66.8% and then the computer either freezes or just stops working. Have you had any luck with anything you have tried. I was on the phone with Dell two hours last night and they have no idea about software issues, yet windows can't help me becaause dell bought the license. Im about to scream. I bought the 1525 ispiron from Dell a week ago, and couldn't wait to use the movie making software. No luck yet... Any ideas? Thank you in advance Tara

How about using Windows Media Center to burn the DVD? Not Media Player, but Media Center. Also, is the system adequate to the job? Encoding video is incredibly processor intensive. You might try disabling any antivirus scanners running during the time you are trying to encode and burn the job.
zachd [MSFT] - 07 Feb 2008 08:43 GMT Are there any errors for this listed in the Problem Reports and Solutions center control panel?

The Office 2007 Moviemaker is much better than the 2003 and I find it really user friendly BUT I couldn't burn a movie for love or money, no matter how many solutions I tried. I blamed Dell but they couldn't help me and , well you've read everyones' issues with Microsoft. I have given up and gone back to my other computer to use the previous moviemaker and had to reedit the entire movie, since Moviemaker 2003 doesn't recognize files from 2007!!!! I then transfer it to Adobe premier and burn a movie (in theory... it has worked in the past).
Sorry, I can't be of any great help

Shax - 05 Mar 2008 05:56 GMT To all... After many hours of frustration with "Windows Movie Maker, & no results, I went out and purchased Pinnacle "Studio plus" version 11, with outstanding results. Give it a try, works well. Forget about "Windows Movie Maker" it's absolute rubbish! Regards, Shax.

Not true, I have tried Pinnacle and WMM, I prefer WMM by far, but I can imagine frustrations if someone is no good with a program.
Jon - 13 Mar 2008 15:13 GMT Here is my input on the situation. I have been trying for the last 3 weeks to burn a DVD using various Programs in Windows Vista (32 Ultimate): WMM, Pinnacle, Adobe Premiere Elements, several open source alternatives as well. All in all I think I've tried about 8 different programs. In each of them I get to 97% encoded (awesome progress compared to some), but in the end each attempt bombed out. It came down to this for me, if I want to encode a DVD I cannot do it in Vista, I had to use an XP machine I had around.
Hopefully this issue is fixed with SP1 soon.

Is this a crash or does it just cancel the encoding?

I make a movie with windows movie maker and then try to publish it with dvd maker. The program freezes the entire computer at 3% encoding. I can watch the movie on the computer without any problems but I can't turn it into a movie. I am getting very frustrated and any help would be greatly appreciated.

On Request - 22 Apr 2008 13:48 GMT There may be a problem with your source files. Have a look at this URL to see if your problem is discussed there:

What video card do you have?

Prior to upgrading to SP1 I could get to 2.8% encoding on the publish to DVD. I couldn't get anywhere on Publish to Computer. After upgrading to SP1 I get to 13.2% on the publish to DVD and 9% on the Publish to Computer. At these levels the computer just hangs indefinitely. Running Vista Home Premium. Trying to publish a 4.5 min movie maker project. I've searched all over the internet and can't find a solution. Any ideas?

It would be useful to know what is hanging how. If it's freezing the entire system that's one thing, if it's just freezing DVD Maker that's another.
