Windows Media Center will stop playing recorded tv.  It says it is searching
for a solution, and then restarts media center.  This seems to happen over
and over.  It records fine, just does not play through.

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1 (build 6001) installed
in a Board: ASUSTek Computer INC. M2NPV-VM 1.xx
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD ASUS M2NPV-VM ACPI BIOS Revision 1201
09/20/2007.

Processor is 2.80 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
128 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache

Display is NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT [Display adapter]
ACR Acer AL2216W [Monitor] (22.0"vis, s/n L74090386340, July 2007)

Multimedia is Creative SB Audigy 4 (WDM)
Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II (Encoder/Decoder)

I had hoped service pack 1 would solve this problem, but it is no better if
not worse.

What could be the problem?  Help?

Will it play LiveTV?a
Can you play a DVD in MC?
Can you play a recorded program using Media Player instead of MC?

Interesting.  The same problem occurs playing live tv and DVD.

I do not use MC for that, and never noticed.

Still need help.

Thanks

It appears that the Hauppauge Decoder may be causing the problem.  Can you
record a program using the Hauppauge WinTV program and play it back?  Can
you watch LiveTV with WinTV.
Use the following utility to insure that you are using the MS Vista MPEG2
decoder for MC.

Check for the latest drivers at the NVIDIA and Hauppauge websites.

I tried utility to make sure windows mpg2 player was default.  No different
results.

I uninstalled all Hauppauge drivers with their hcwclear utility.  Restarted
computer, and let Vista with sp1 install Hauppage driver.  Still same problem.

I recently updated nvidia drivers - like a week ago.  did not help.

any other suggestions?

Following is a link to the drivers that I use for my my Hauppauge card;

http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/support/support_new_xpvista.html

They work for me on Vista 32 bit Home Premium RTM or SP1 RC1 when using
either MC or the WinTV application.

I downloaded and followed instructions to a tee.  Still same problem with
media player.  Win TV trys to start, but comes up with "connot access TV
Tuner, please check the unit is connected and the drivers are correctly
installed.(0)

Media center  starts and plays, so unit must be connected.  I ran clear
utility, I may try it in safe mode and start again.  I am at a loss.  I have
hauppauge 350, do I need to change to a more recent board.  It was a lot of
money back when....

There is no information in the following link that states that the board can
be used with the MC application in either MCE2005 or Vista. You will have to
continue to use the Hauppauge WinTV application or purchase a new board. You
might consider a 1600 or 1800 since they support both analog SD TV and ATSC
OTA or Clear QAM digital channels.
