Windows Media Player had been able to add files to the library instantly, but
after I installed VLC Player it refused to add any file in the subfolders of
the managed folder to the library. Then I tried to make WMP the default
program (again) for all file types it can handle, but it still didn't work.
None of the settings has been changed.
For example, it can only add Music\abc.mp3 but not Music\123\456\xyz.mp3.
Certainly I can't point out all the subfolders in the Music folder for WMP to
manage each one of them (there are about 300 subfolders).
So how can I make it add files in the subfolders again ?

If you drag and drop that parent folder onto the library and then make
yourself a sandwich, does the player find out about these files?

The player won't automatically readd deleted files, since that would drive
you crazy.

If the library is corrupt--

would fix you up.  The easiest symptom of that is that the Monitored Folders
list is empty.

Speaking for myself only.
See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
