I have a 20" iMac Dual Core 2 GHz with 2 G RAM etc.  I was running XP Home
on the Boot Camp install (120 Gig HD partition) and Vista installed w/o a
hitch. Had to remove Nero and a cople of things aren't recognized, but there
was a note about sound that I missed, since I don't have a fancy sound card
or memory in this machine.  Vista suggested I go somewhere and get drivers
for some sound but now I can't remember where I'm supposed to go, or where I
read where I was supposed to go.

Any help with this?

Anyone else install Vista on an iMac Dual Core?

an iMac inegrated audio chip/card will never work with windows drivers from
the OS as the hardware setups are completely different.

To get sound on your Intel iMac, you need to extract the Sigmatel driver
from the "Macintosh Drivers for Windows XP" disk you burnt using Boot Camp
1.1.1, then manually start the Sigmatel installer.

OuiLa! you will have sound in Vista.

To do this,
1) Place your "Macintosh Drivers for Windows XP disk in the DVD drive.
2) Make sure you are in Vista
3) Copy the "Macintosh Drivers for Windows XP.exe" file to a folder on your
HD.  (I suggest you copy it to C:\Documents).
4) Open a command prompt, and CD to that folder.
5) Enter this command "Macintosh Drivers for Windows XP.exe" /V /a (making
sure to enclose the file name in quotes, but not the two flags.
6) The installation files will be extracted into individual folders under a
sub-folder called "C:\...\program files\Macintosh Drivers for Windows XP".
7) Exit the command prompt.
8) From the Vista Desktop, launch Explorer.
9) Navigate to "C:\...\program files\Macintosh Drivers for Windows
XP\SigmaTel" and set "Setup.exe" to use XP compatibility, and run as
Adminstrator.
10) Launch "Setup.exe".
11) Wait for the installer to start, and install the drivers.
12) Reboot, and you will have sound.

To use your external speakers, connect them to the LEFT-MOST (looking from
the back of the System Unit) port (my speaker set has a green plug and
black plug on the cable coming from the sub-woofer.  I use the green one).
Otherwise, you will only get sound coming from the two built-in speakers of
your iMac, not a pleasureable experience, I assure you.s  With external
speakers connected, the two internal speakers are disabled.

On my Intel Core-Duo iMac 17", I only get stereo.  If anyone knows how to
get all my speakers working, please let me know.

My speaker set is a Cambridge Soundworks 4+1 set, made by Creative Labs.
As far as I know, it is strictly analog, since the connection from the
sub-woofer to the iMac is not digital, as far as I know, just a normal RCA
jack.

Under Vista, only the two rear speakers work, while under XP only the two
front speakers work.  In addition, the surround-sound option is disabled in
the SigmaTel console under either OS.  Supposedly, this speaker-set is
cable of using Surround Sound.

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Donald
