I don't know what I did but my icons are now on the right side of the screen
and taking about a fourth of the screen.
How do I get it back to normal with the icons across the bottom and afull
screen for my mail etc.?

Sounds like you dragged your
Taskbar to the right of your screen...

Just left click it / hold the mouse
button down / and drag it back.

If the bar is too wide...place your
pointer on the edge until you see a
double arrow and drag it to the size
you need.
