mini dv viar firewire

I have a Medion laptop with Vista Home Premium and recently bought a firewire
card-express34 and a 6 pin to 4 pin cable to get mini dv video onto my
computer, the camcorder is a Sharp VL-DC3H. MM is telling me i have no tape
in and i clerly do. Any help out their please.

Is the camcorder on AC power (and not on its internal battery)?

No it's not being powered by battery, but by it's mains/powerpack
