Windows Forum / Windows Vista / Networking / June 2007Can now see vista comp on my network via my xp machine but needs password
I have been fighting the network problems with this new vista machine and my xp network. I can now acess my xp machines via the vista machine but when I try to acess the vista machine I am asked for a user name and password. Passwords make networking work better in XP, Vista, and other operating systems. Yes, the OP could use blank passwords but it wouldn't be my first choice. I have exactly the same problem, only I can go a bit further. My XP machines can access files on the Vista machine but Vista wants a password to access XP. There is just no one solution. Do you have a thread of your own, anywhere, describing your individual problem in detail? Is the Vista computer running Password Protected Sharing Enabled or Disabled? My email is AT DOT actual address pchuck mvps org. I seem to have the same problem on XP Home and Professional, but for the sake of simplicity, lets stick with the XP Professional machines and Vista. Running simple file sharing, at least I believe so. Password protected file sharing is disabled. Password protected file >sharing is disabled. Administrator account has network access. OK, if XP Home is involved, then it'll be simpler if you do run SFS on XP Pro, and Disable PPS on Vista.
