Hi! I just bought a new Lenovo 3000N200 laptop which came with Vista Home Premium preinstalled. I connected it wirelessly to my home network. The other PCs in this network are wired to the same ASUS wireless router and run WinXP. All the machines are in the same workgroup. The network profile of my Vista laptop is "Private". Everything works fine until I enable password protected sharing (file sharing ON, public folder sharing ON, password protected sharing ON) and reboot the machine. I mention the system is working as expected until reboot. After each reboot, I find both the file sharing and public folder sharing set to OFF. Of course, the shared folders are not accessible via network. I can set the two options back to ON and everything works fine again, but this is unacceptably annoying! If password protected sharing is set to OFF, file and folder sharing keep their ON state even after reboot. But I want the protected sharing - it fits my needs like a glove! Does anyone have any idea what is going on with my Vista machine??? I love the new network features in Vista, but this little malfunction is driving me crazy! Any input would be greatly appreciated -- thanks in advance! The Vista Home edition doesn't remember the credentials. Create a logon batch to map the drive. Or this post may help. I have no troubles working with mapped volumes, and I have no volume on my Vista machine mapped on another PC on my home network. I was talking about two of the settings in "Network and Sharing Center": files sharing and pub folder sharing. They turn by themselves from ON to OFF every time I boot the PC, but only if a third setting, password protected sharing, is set to ON. The mentioned settings are not stuck or blocked, as I can turn them to ON and everything works just fine till the next boot up. As you imagine, the situation is more than annoying... Still, file sharing state is not remembered by the system. I'm starting to think, as you say, that it is something related to a third party piece of software that came preinstalled on my system (Lenovo Access Connections) that automatically changes networking settings based on some user defined locations. Anyway, even disabling this software the malfunction continues to occur. I forgot to mention I also installed SP1 for Vista a couple of days ago - don't know if this might be a factor in what's going on. You were right in the assumption that a third party software (Lenovo Access Connections in my case) is the cause of this. I did a system recovery and removed this software before configuring my network settings. Now everything is working fine. Once again it has been proven Microsoft rules and others can't cope with it! Hi leontet, when you connect to your wireless router are you getting a IP address from your router. everytime your pc reboots does it ask to set the network location. if so please state that. Thanks for your input, it's most appreciated! My Vista laptop is configured NOT to use DHCP, it has a fixed IP address. DHCP server is NOT enabled on my router, as all my PCs are configured this way. All the machines in my network join one and the same workgroup, NOT a domain. I haven't touched the security policies on my Vista laptop, as I don't even know how to get there in Vista. I'll make available whatever info might be necessary to solve this problem - unfortunately I don't have enough knowledge what to supply unless asked... Access Connections It overrides the file and print sharing setting on your network connection if enabled (among other important settings). To change your settings: Access Connections - manage - select your connection - edit - additional settings. This should fix your problem. Hope this helps CHeers !! The culprit in my problem was indeed Lenovo (ex-IBM) Access Connections software. It should indeed work as you explain, but it simply doesn't. Or it does, but aparently not the way Vista expects such software to do it. I did a system recovery, uninstalled the mentioned program and configured my network settings only afterwards. Now I'm glad to tell you everything works just fine! Hello there, I've been reading this thread because I'm having the same problem described here but in my case my PC was built by me and doesn't have the IBM software that you mentioned. I installed Vista Ultimate x64 on this PC and have some third party software installed but it's mostly for ::Peripherals (Printer, GPS unit, Data robot, ETC.):: I was wondering if you have another solution that might be able to help me. I have a ASUS 'P5N32-SLI' (P5N#@SLI) Premium motherboard with 2 NVIDIA GeForce 7600GT video cards, intel core2 6600, two seagate 1TB drives on a raid 1 configuration. As mentioned before my problem is the same. Every time I reboot my PC the "Printer Sharing" is turned off in the "Network and sharing center" and I have to turn it back on to have my workgroup be able to see my PC.
