My screen saver doesn't work, I didn't do anything to prompt it to not work, I do not use any mouse other than my touch pad. I use Windows Vista Home Premium on a Dell Laptop. I have tried to read other people's posts and either can't understand them or they don't apply to me. I can't even preview the screen savers. Please help. Thanks! Do you receive any kind of error? Please help. Thanks! no error message it just never goes idle it seems. All the screensavers worked before and then all of a sudden they stopped. Thanks! i'm having the exact same problem, my screensaver and preview won't work. the screensaver will never come on, and when i hit preview it comes on for about 1 second and then kicks off. i had a wireless mouse, but unlike everyone else on the internet, when i unplugged mine the screensaver never started working again. i've tried everything i can think of including the HID update, but still nothing. you are the only other person i've found that the preview also doesn't work. has anyone found a solution yet? HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLPPPP!!!  Signaturedherman I also cannot get screensaver to work. It did work at first for a couple of months then just stopped working. What it does is, after the set number of minutes, the screensaver starts for about 2 seconds, then the screen goes black until you reactivate it. Seems wireless mice might have something to do with it, is that right? I normally used a wired mouse but do have also a wireless one (but I don't like the delay involved to get it to wake up after sleeping!) - I cannot guarantee that I have never plugged that one in. I suspect it was a Symantec update that caused this problem. I tried to do a system restore prior to the update but the restore failed too. Also have found no solution. I got an unexpected vista update today and as I watched my computer go down and come back up and with no intervention my screensaver then tried to come on and guess what - new screen saver error. I also still suffer from another problem a just after a previous vista update - I have two login icons that go my same one and only user login account. Can anyone help? Please help. Thanks! one alternative may be to turn off monitor using a shareware "turn off monitor" at 'Turn Off Monitor,ShutDown,Lock Workstation,Turn Off Laptop Monitor and much more...' It worked before, and I had checked the Preview which works, and I had checked the power settings which are 15min.on battery, 30min. on plugin. It's aldo set on Performance Setting. Please advise. The screensavber worked once and then stopped. I re-installed Vista Premium and the first time the screensaver worked after I set it up. Then it stopped. As long as you have the pointer RESTING on the screen, " something is running ", therefore screensaver does not kick in. Have your mouse pointing away from the computer, your screensaver will come on on schedule. Your wired mouse will not have that problem because it's not laser optical. There you have it. Additional infos : Go to Windows Updates, download one of the optionals: " Other hardware. HID Non-User Input Data Filter " . It will get the screensaver working even with wireless mouse. Signaturedavidjchuang Thanks for the help. Just pointing the mouse away from the lapop didn't work...signal too strong probably. However, I disconnected the mouse and used the fingerpad. The screensaver came on. I then downloaded the optional that david said to use and that worked for the wireless mouse. First I took it off of the screen all the way to the bottom below the windows icon to where the arrow was no longer visible. No screensaver. Then I took the arrow all the way to the top above the black bar and all the way to the left so you can no longer see the arrow (pointer) and still no screensaver. Some more interesting stuff: I have one Laptop, DELL, running WinXP SP3, wireless mouse, having the same problem. But it did work some time ago. Additionally I haver a stationary DELL, Desktop, wired mouse. Also the same problem, sometimes. Sometimes screen Saver works, sometimes not, Could it be a problem from somewere else than the wireless mouse. Someone somewhere mentioned an UD of Symantec. MAybe?? DDW -- Reply via this group No email please I get the black screen once in a while. Here's what I do .... I go to the Personalization... Screen Saver ... Then, I move to another screen saver ... APPLY. Then, I move back to the screen saver I like ... APPLY. OKAY.
