restore from vista to xp

I am trying to restore files backed up in vista, to my pc now I have
reinstalled xp but system says it cannot read files, can anyone help?

Hi John12003,

What did you use to backup the files? Vista's new backup program that XP
won't know what to do with?

Traditionally, Windows Backup has never been backwards compatible, and Vista
backup is no exception.. you will have to find a Vista system on which to
retrieve them, then save them to CD as regular files which is what home
users should do anyway..
