Memory Recognition

Is there a limitation on the amount of memory recognized by Windows Vista? I
know in the past Windows versions it would only show a maximum of 3000MB even
if you had more memory in the computer. Thanks in advance for anyones help.

4GB for x86 version.

32 bit operating systems can only directly address 4 GB of RAM. Some of this
is used by the motherboard. Vista is the same as other OS'. The 32 bit
version can address 4 GB of RAM. If you install more than 3 GB the OS may
report less memory than what you actually have. How much less will depend on
your motherboard. 64 bit OS' like Vista x64 and XP x64 don't have this
limitation and with most motherboards should report the full amount of RAM
installed.

So let me get this straight. Even though Vista only reports 2.25 GB of the
4GB I have installed it is still using all 4 GB???

Also I find it ironic that Microsoft would blame the motherboard and bios
for the error when the bios reports all 4 GB and so does any of the other 3rd
party software that reads system specs (I have tried at least 3 others now).
It would seem a simple matter for Microsoft to fix this issue. Since
everyone else can do it.
