Fujitsu ScanSnap S500 Vista Drivers Don't Work

I have a ScanSnap S500 and Fujitsu just released the Vista Drivers on
6/29. I installed but no workie. The driver appeared to install
correctly the first time and I plugged the scanner in and heard the
sound of a usb device being plugged in. However, the ScanSnap Manager
does not recognize that the scanner is available. I uninstalled the
driver and tried to re-install it, but now it won't install and fails
with an error that it can't find the specified file.

I called Fujitsu support and the level 1 support tech was not  able to
resolve it after several uninstall/re-install attempts. I'm waiting
for level 2 support to call me back.

Anyone else have this problem?

I also have a Scansap S500, tried it with the Visat upgrade driver and
it seemed to work fine until i tried to find any scans!

The box opened after the scan asking me to rename the file, which i
did, and then tried to save it to a folder. Box closed no file to be
found -no matter how hard I searched!

Any ideas?

Don't use the Vista "upgrade" driver, it doesn't work properly. Here's
what I did and it works perfectly. First, uninstall the scanner in
control panel. Then disconnect it and reboot the machine. After it
reboots, go into processes and kill the ScanSnap processes. Now
uninstall the software and reboot the machine. Now it should be clean.
Either contact tech support or search the web and get a clean FULL copy
of ScanSnap manager for Vista (not the upgrade). I think they may even
have a full version of ScanSnap manager on their site to download, look
under the S510 model. Once you have the FULL version, not the upgrade,
install it and it will work perfectly. Now if you have Vista 64, you
will need to contact Fujitsu tech support and beg & plead to allow them
to download the ScanSnap software for the S300. Even though it's for a
different model, it will work perfectly on a 64 bit machine and with the
S500, S510 or S300. Good luck and have fun!

You need to hang in there. I called the US help desk early in the
morning and got a really helpful guy. I forget his name or I would give
it to you. He needs to direct you to a special hidden site which
contains ALL of their downloads. He will create unique 1 time use ID and
Password that will allow you to download the file. [I went back to the
site a 2nd time later in the day and my ID / Password no longer worked.]
You just need to get a hold of the right person to grant you access.
Once you get the file it works like a charm. FYI ~ I did advise their
technical department that the 300 driver works on a 64-bit machine and
works perfectly with the S500. I wish I could email you the file but
it's way too big 600MB+. PM me if you have any ideas.

I, too, have contacted Fujitsu to no avail.  I was very polite and
informed the representative that several users have reported success
with the S300 software working with the S500 scanner in Vista 64-bit,
and all she could tell me is she's not authorized to give me the S300
software.  She said that only the S300 and S510 have Vista x64 support
and all she could do was put a request forward to her boss concerning
the issue.  She took my contact information and said she couldn't make
any promises so at this point I would have to say it's looking bleak.

I wish I could even call back and say I have an S300 but I don't have a
serial number that would pass for that unit.  Why is it that this
company refuses to help their customers who invested $400 per unit when
clearly it involves no cost on their part? Just release whatever driver
the customer wants if that's what it takes for the unit to function.
I've bought an S500 for myself and several others for my clients but if
I don't get any response from Fujitsu I'm going to have to say I will
not recommend their products anymore based solely on their terrible
customer support.

Is this a way to force the S500 users to upgrade to another model?  I
can't imagine I would gain additional benefit between an S500 and an
S510 minus the 64-bit OS compatibility and some additional software
enhancements that I don't even care about.

just thought i'd post this here too for those who are searching...

I just got off the phone 6:15 EST with a rep and he created a case
number for my vista x64 and S510. He said they have created a proper
download and driver but have not added it to the web site, yet.
An engineer will email me the details of how to grab the file next…
Seems like enough people may have complained…

I fail to believe that that's anything more than a line given by a tired
staff / phone worker.

I'll believe it when I see it!
Shame Fujitsu!!
