I have an HP officejet 5610 all-in-one. I recently got a new laptop with
Vista on it. When I print from a page, document, or site the job prints;
however, I can not navigate until the job is printed. While this occurs,
Windows displays at the top of the page (not responding) until the job is
printed. This is frustrating because it slows down my work production
especially when I have to print several pages. I have tried everything that
I know to resolve this issue. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Is this a USB or LPT printer... or rather, how do you have it connected to
your PC? If it's USB, are the ports on the back or the front of the PC or
if on a hub, powered or unpowered?

The printer is connected to my laptop via a USB cord. The port is located on
the right side of the laptop close to the front of the unit. My laptop is a
Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747. I have had it about a week.

Is this a network printer or is it attached directly to the computer you
are using? If the latter, check the spooler settings and assure that it
is set to spool print documents and to print immediately rather than
print directly to the printer. Printing directly to the printer will
cause printing to be faster but it effectively turns off multi-tasking
and nothing else is done until printing is completed.

The printer is attached to my laptop. Previously, the default setting was on
spool and I changed it to print directly to printer because the print jobs
would get stuck in que and I had to restart my pc for the jobs to print out.
I will try your suggestion and see what happens.
