HP Support would know this..
Hope you have more luck with HP than I did. I contacted them re my 7960
Printer regarding Vista drivers, but they were very uncomittal.

I was able to get basic print to work for my Hp photosmart 7960 in Vista RTM.
To do this, you have to extract all the installation files into a directory
and then right click each .INF file and select Install. There may be one or
two that will prompt for a file and you'll have to help it locate the driver
(like usbhub.sys for example). After this completes, find the child
installation directory that contains the MSI for the 7900 series printer and
run it. If all goes well, you'll get a "Installer Drivers" message box and
you can watch the progress. Any interim prompt you get about requiring a CD
or driver file can be cancelled (be sure to tell Vista not to prompt you
again).
When all this completes, you should notice the printer in the printer menu.
What you won't have are all the extra goodies that you may/may not have used
with this printer on XP.
Best luck,
Stuart.

Good answer there Mike,
Duh,
Ya think I didn't check; before typing?
Might wanna call them yourself and see.
As of this yesterday and today btw, HP techs still think it's only beta!
If you care for the chat transcript; I'd br more than happy to provide you
with it,but here's just a snippet
Charlie
I can understand, but for this scanner the Vista drivers are not available.
Jeff
are you guys going to have Vista drivers for it?
Charlie
Whenever the Vista original version releases then we can get the drivers for
the scanners.
Jeff
it is released charlie
Charlie
I am sorry Jeff, still beta version running in the market.
Charlie

Jeff
The same problems arose when XP was first released. I have no illusions
whatsoever regarding HP's intransigence regarding drivers for their
hardware..

Mike,
Just a note; I didn't mean to be tooo sarcastic, but I do check on this
stuff before I post.
That's all
Hp has released some drivers, but even their techs don't have a clue;as
evidenced by my chat with them.

HP is being a real jerk about this. It's not that they are saying "no",
it's just that they are not saying, period.
I realize that for some models, support is "in the future", and that for
other models, it may not yet have been determined if there will be
support. But, obviously, for lots of models support is "definite", and
for other models it's "definitely planned" (even if it's not yet available).
HP needs to make a model-by-model list of Vista Status available, and
they absolutely have refused to do so thus far, and it's a real pain in
the a.s for those of us who are trying to plan near term migrations to
Vista. We don't know, and can't easily find out, what will work, and
what won't work and will either have to remain on XP or be replaced.
Come on, HP, give us a web page where we can enter a product model
number and find out if Vista drivers:
-Vista Drivers exist on the Vista RTM DVD
-Vista Drivers exist on Windows update or the HP web site
-Vista Drivers are planned for future availability (Windows update
and/or HP site)
-Vista Drivers are not currently planned
And, for some devices, we need a description of the level of support
(e.g. for scanners and MFP's, there might be a level of support below
"full" support, but we need to understand exactly what that is.

Barry,
I've been round and round with HP; forever it seems.
Chk out my ealier post; a response to Mike's comment.
HP techs still think it's beta!!!
(but they did add a bunch of drivers to RTM-even though your printer isn't
one of them;sorry)
