I have Fax and Scan ( Vista Ultimate ) working, but I find I have to start
it manually so the fax will monitor for incoming calls.

Isn't there a flag setting to allow it to activate on boot up and be in a
waiting mode ?

The FAX ***service*** has to be set to Automatic
or Automatic (delayed start) preferred, for the fax
to be able to work.
If you have set everything up properly in the tools>fax settings
>general> allow the device to receive fax calls, then it should
work OK. But the fax service must be running.
So open services & see if fax is set to auto or auto(deley start)

You're welcome.  It's enlightening to know that
posters do come back and tell the NG that a suggestion
did or did not work.
Best or luck.
