Hi, anyone have any luck getting HP 6100xi scanner working fully under
vista, in particular the "Scan to" function on the front panel? I have
tried installing the Vista version of HP Solution Center under but it
just says "No HP devices have been detected" (read no devices we care
to support anymore).

HP recommendation seems to be to upgrade to an almost identical
printer which they "support" under vista, but I really don't want to
throw away a perfectly good printer, and if I did upgrade I certainly
wouldn't upgrade to another HP printer if this is their idea of
support.

You followed the instructions at:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00808543&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en
&product=79480&lang=en

I notice it doesn't mention the scanner button on the front panel, only with
Windows software so maybe they consider that an 'advanced feature' that is
not supported under Vista.

Yes, I followed the instructions on the HP web page. The basic printer
driver is OK, but the basic scanner driver is useless. It doesn't
support any of the front panel buttons, scan to PDF, or any of the
functionality you would expect from a reasonable scanner.
