Problems with security. Help pleeeaz

I have some strange problems with my comp security. I cannot update
windows - error 8024402C In Help I found that I have to turn off
Firewall, Antivirus,anti-spyware software, while downloading and
installing updates.I checked my Windows Security Center and found out
that I have 2 Firewalls Windows Firewall and McAfee on at the same time.
I can turn Windows Firewall off,but I can't do anything to McAfee.I have
no idea where it comes from.I never installed it and more than that I
checked all my computer, registry. I didn't find anything close to
it.But my Security Center says that I have not only McAfee Firewall
,butI also have McAfee Antivirus and multiple antispyware programs and
all this stuff turned on and up to date.Sometimes I have this :
-"problem was caused by Bitdefender Antivirus, which was created by
Bitdefender. Currently, there is no solution for the problem that you
reported" I do not have any Bitdefender in my computer. Where all this
stuff comes from. The only Antivirus that I installed in my comp was
NOD32 But I had to uninstall it Because I do not want them to conflict
with each other.
Any suggestions?

McAfee stuff had to have been installed either by you, or it's a
bundled program from the OEM that you bought this computer from, and the
samewith BitDefender.
You had a much better AV program with Nod32 than BitDefender, so if you
can go back to NOD without much cost, then I recommend that.

2 firewalls will Always conflict, whereas 2 AV's usually will not, but
the reduncancy is not needed. If McAfee is installed on this machine, it
will be listed in Control Panel/Programs & Features list.
If you indeed do have McAfee firewall you can disable the Windows
Firewall by stopping and disabling it's service in the Services list.
While it's not a real good firewall, it's better than the Windows one.
As soon as possible tho, I would get rid of all that McAfee crud and get
either Comodo's Free firewall (#1 ranked) or Online Armor Personal
Firewall (Free)(#4 ranked), and along with Nod32 AV you'll have a great
security combo.

Below is what I use, and how to use it!

Vista’s Firewall is very good! Only run 1 Firewall.

Above is a link to Avast Free 4 Home Anti-Virus
It is low resource using, free and Vista 32bit and 64bit compatible.
Only have one (1) anti-virus installed; more than 1 can cause conflicts.

For Spyware removal, use the above link to “Spybot Search & Destroy 1.5.2”
Download it, install it, update it, immunize your system and scan your
System with it.

For a non-scanning, but running in the background, Program to STOP Spyware
being downloaded to your Computer, use SpywareBlaster 4, available at the
above link.

IMPORTANT ADVICE: After scanning with the above Programs, problems still
remain.

Reboot computer, and tap F8 at power on/ startup. From the list of options
that appears, select Safe mode by using the UP and DOWN Arrows, then hit
ENTER.

Rescan the computer in Safe mode.

Go to Control Panel and double click Add/Remove programs;
Wait for the installed software list to be displayed;
Locate the applications you wish to remove, highlight it and then click
Remove;
Wait for the uninstall process to complete and then restart your computer.

2.Reboot!

5.Ensure that the Windows Firewall is activated.

6. Re-try updating Windows.

BTW; A very useful application for any *new* PC is the PC Decrapifier, it
attempts to remove all of the crap on your PC that you never asked for.

Is it possible the other AV software came bundled with your hardware or with
other apps? For example, a Google search for Bit Defender bundle shows that
it comes in a bundle with VMWare/Intego. One way to get rid of all these
conflicting AV packages is to go into your Control Panel and choose
Add/Remove Programs then find the undesired software and uninstall it.
