From your description, this is a BIOS password. *Someone* had to set it; a
BIOS password doesn't magically create itself. If your friend seriously
can't remember it, then possibly he can ask whoever *he* got the laptop
from.
Otherwise contact the laptop mftr. for instructions. You can remove a
BIOS-level password yourself - with guidance - on some machines. On others,
the machine will need to be sent back to the laptop mftr. So you need to
call their tech support and ask.

It 'possibly' has 3rd party security, boot or M/B password set.strictly
based on your friends ignorance about his system, are you certain he is the
original owner?

If you're going to call someone "retarded", it's best to not misspell
the word.

No he means his friend has a sharp bitter taste. :)

What does it say? Are there screen graphics, or just text printed
to screen? I suppose if it were inactive for a long enough time it
might lose power to the backup BIOS settings and take you to
the BIOS Setup Program - in this case, contact the manufacturer.
Could be a cryptographic security program too, but your
straightforward friend would surely know about its existence.
>....my friend was puzzled and said he didn't set one...
Was he viewing the screen with you, or just telling you by
phone that he didn't set one?
> This is all before it even gets to to log in screen.after 4 tries

Ask your friend what OSes are installed on the machine.
Exact wording of messages typed to screen would be helpful,
as would a description of graphics if any.
> .........any body out there know
> how to get pass this ?
Sure, but you haven't told anybody what "this" is.
Maybe your friend gave you the wrong laptop, and his is
at some corporate headquarters where they are trying to
figure out why the contents are not encrypted. :oD

Take it back to whomever you ***BORROWED*** it from and ask them how to get
into the computer they no longer possess.

have a check 'Here' (http://www.tech-faq.com/reset-bios-password.shtml)
for some ideas. if no luck then it's time to contact the manufacturers
help service. as the laptop is only about a year old the may still cover
it.

You may have to flash the BIOS, partition and format the drive,
and install an operating system. Contact the manufacturer to find
out how.
