hello everyone, I just put together a new computer and ran into some
problems when trying to install vista home premium x64.

it just won't boot. I set my dvd drive as the first bootable device,
and it tries to find a bootable cd, but fails.

I don't think it's the hardware, since I just popped in an old windows
xp cd, and the system recognized it and booted.

Is this a well known problem? any known fixes or guesses as to what the
problem might be?

thank you.

This may sound simple but is your drive a DVD drive, not a cd drive. The
Vista installation disk is a DVD. You can get a cd rom for shipping cost if
your version is  a retail version
