I have the MSDN installation dvd for Vista. I had a XP MCE that I was going
to change to Vista as my first install. I decided to install the Home
Premium version, because I did not think I needed the Ultimate version.
After installation went just fine, I tried to join to my local domain and
discovered that you can't do that unless you install Ultimate. I looked for
a way to upgrade to Ultimate, since I also have an Ultimate key, but the
only upgrade info I could find was to "purchase" an upgrade. Just for
kicks, I followed the path and any of the online shops I chose would come up
at all, so if I needed to purchase the upgrade, I couldn't.
My real problem is how do I change the version to Ultilmate using the key
that I have?

I thought all vista versions are ultimate's they only switch between one and
another by looking at their keys.
So on installation, vista looks at your key and decides wich vista version
to install.
I guess you don't have an ultimate key, or used wrong key on installation.
Just my opinion...

You can't do this with the media you have. The only way you can is to
purchase the "anytime" upgrade - and the key word here is PURCHASE. Sorry.

Can't you reinstall and use the Ultimate key?

You can re-install and use the ultimate key
I've done it and it works just fine

Thanks is what I did. I was just trying to be lazy and not have to
re-install.
