Hi,

I bought Windows Vista upgrade but the install never worked so I returned
it to the store. However, now everytime I start my computer it asks me if I
want to start the previous operating system or finish the installation of
vista. However, if i dont click start the older version it goes to the
install area of vista and gives me the error that I cannot install. I am not
sure why its doing this because i thought the vista install removed itself
when it couldnt install?

Vista installed its own boot manager, which behaves just as you
describe.  If you have your XP install CD you can boot from that
and use its repair facility to re-install the XP boot loader.

A little googling should fill in the details for you.

Boot into XP, download VistaBootPro - http://www.vistabootpro.org/ . Install
the program and run it. Make XP the default operating system and delete all
other startup entries.
