I own a copy of XP home.  I am in the process of building a new pc and want
to transfer the operating system rights from my old pc and will remove it
from the hard drive.

Is there any other way of installing Vista home premimum on the new machine
without going through a install of my XP home operating system?

Can I get a clean install?

Hi mp2--

Essentially yes.

Here's what you can do:

When you use an existing operating as a base for installing an upgrade
version of a new operating system, the old O/S is subsumed into the new O/S.
In other words, you would not be able (under the EULA) to continue to use
Windows XP on the old computer.

If you want Vista on the new computer and Windows XP on the old computer you
would need a full install version of Vista for the new computer.

Yeah! I know there are ways around this but I do not delve into these.
