just got myself the upgrade version of Windows Vista... (this is the version
where you need to have XP or Windows 2000 already installed on your computer)
My question is, do anybody have a clue about wether i need a XP cd or not
the NEXT time i need to reinstall Vista?
I`ll be deligthed for any help

Hello,

as far as I know, yes, you will need the XP CD or an installation of XP
unless you do the following 'trick':
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_upgrade_clean.asp
It allows you to upgrade Vista from a clean installation of Vista, which is
a great idea.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Greetings,

Or use your money to buy an imaging product, and make a back-up image
immediately after upgrading.

P.,
It was reported recently in these newsgroups that msft had reprogrammed the servers to prevent that install method.
"The Microsoft product activation servers have
been reprogrammed to not activate an upgrade Vista license
unless the qualifying Windows license is also present."

Oh, thank you, I have actually wondered why they still haven't done anything
about that, but now - great, thanks for telling me.
Have a nice day!

And if you followed the rest of that thread, you would have noticed that
that info is entirely false, there has been no reprogramming of activation
servers to prevent the double install method or the activation of such an
install.
