I've used this link

and downloaded the Windows x64 executable. I am using an AMD 64 processor.
Although the product will install, it still won't function. When I look in
the installed programs list, I can see that the Publisher name is glitched
and instead of saying Sun Microsystems, it gives a registry string. Anyone
else having difficulty installing Java? Considering this is a clean
installation of Ultimate x64, I don't see how I could be having these
difficulties.

Download JRE 6 from here:
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Install the x86 JRE - the x64 version does not enable Java in your browser.
I have the x86 JRE installed here on x64 Vista. Works fine in IE7 32 bit.
Virtually no ActiveX etc are currently written for the native IE7 64 bit
browser.
