Hi,
I recently found that Windows Vista Home Premium version does not
include fax as did XP Home. Since that time I have been using a trial
version of SnappyFax. It is about to expire....
What other feature(s) will I eventually find lacking in Vista Home
Premium that would justify upgrading to Vista Ultimate? If there are
none, I guess I will pay $30 for SnappyFax and live with Home Premium.
TIA
Bill

Hi Bill,
Here's a fairly comprehensive comparison of the product editions:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/choose.mspx
The things I most appreciate about Ultimate (in addition to the Fax & Scan
capability) are BitLocker Drive Encryption and Remote Desktop Connection.
Also, none of the home editions can connect to a network domain, which would
be a big problem in my own personal situation.
Hope that helps!

Here is the link to versions.

However, if Snappyfax is performing as you require, stick with it.
If you * really * need the extras of Ultimate then upgrade.
Personally I have Enterprise and Business and a 3rd party TV
tuner (on Business machine) that's all I need.
It's a case for not what you want, but what you NEED , to make
your machine productive !
p.s. There have been some reports of Fax & Scan not working
with various scanners as in (all in one printers).

Without knowing exactly how you use your computer, nobody can possibly
answer that question for you.
If you want a real, very detailed list of what is available in each version,
go to the following website and get the Windows Vista Product Guide. Take a
look at the Feature Table starting on page 17.

I'm sure there has to be a freeware FAX program available.
If that is your only reason for upgrading to Ultimate, Google it first!!
I build my own & buy OEM Windows.
There is so little real difference in price between the OEM versions, I got
Ultimate from the get-go.
But I do IT on a corporate LAN, so I have to know all the ins & outs of
everything it has to offer anyway.
The lower builds are like harem guards anyway IMHO....

I like the shadow copy and the abilty to make a image of your hard drive
that can be restored if your drive crashes. But that can be done with
Acronis True Image 10 Home for about 30 bucks from Newegg.

I had a look and could see nothing above Home Premium that tempted me.

I would not buy a high priced upgrade just to get bundled applications. An
OS is there to run the hardware and provide API, that's it. There are
hundreds of freewares which do much better than any bundled apps.
