I have a brand new mid range lap top. Now I'm not the most technically gifted of people but I spend half the time retrieving my recycle bin which deletes itself, or looking at messages saying that stuff isn't compatable. When I plug my phone in to my computer it knows its there (my phone says so) and it also allows me to remove it safely so why sometimes will it not turn up in the my computer section so I can actually do something useful with it? I've done it a couple of dozen times already . . . there is an option to delete it from the desktop when you right click, and for whatever reason, many people end up clicking the 'delete' option instead of the 'empty' option. Google, "Remove delete from recycle bin in vista" and you'll find many pages that explain how to remove the delete option, thus stopping us from inadvertently deleting the thing, instead of emptying it. There are quite a few things in the Vista UI that show that they hadn't quite finished it when it came out, and other ideas that were stupid to begin with. It's reported that 512MB is not enough [symptoms such as slow boot] and you need at least 1GB RAM. 2. Also some laptops come with an inordinate number of 2nd and 3rd party apps that launch at boot. If this is the case you might stop some from lauching at startup. Use Windows Defender [found in Control Panel] to prevent programs from lauching at startup (Tools > Software Explorer). Saucy |
