Desktop Icons

I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit and I have created several custom desktop
shortcuts using shell32.dll for the images.   It was fine for about 2 weeks
but recently they all changed to a white page with a blue "E", similar to the
IE icon.  Half of my desktop is now filled with these images and this
includes the hotmail icon.  When I look at properties I see the image I
selected but it won't display.  Sometimes I can change it to a different
image but I can't use the image I want.    I even went to "windows explorer'
and found the correct hotmail shortcut and tried to send it to the desktop
but it just came up like the others.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks but the url didn't do anything.  Nothing was wrong according to the
output.

Hi bcpc43,

You might try one of these other methods in this tutorial to create a
IE7 internet shortcut on your desktop to see if they are more stable
with the icon. You might also try rebuilding the icon cache to see if
that helps. See the related links in the same tutorial below.

Thanks.  It helped to clear the cache but the icon is still wrong and won't
change.  What I found was that by changing the desktop icons to clasic view
they all show correctly, just very small.  I then changed from 90 dpi to 120
dpi and they are better.

Your welcome bcpc43.  Glad to hear that you got it sorted. Good idea to
increase the DPI size to compensate for the Classic Icons size.
