Annoying Challenge ?

I am running Vista Bus. I have 1 program in my start-up group which seems to
get challenged every day or so.
Is there a way to stop that annoying "Allow/Disallow" Challenge? Also I have
1 website that when Protected mode is on causes IE7 to go totally nuts. It
tries opening the page over and over and over again. Until I force all the
pages to close. It seems to only be that 1 page, aol.com. I am also working
w/Symantec on this b/c Norton360 likes turning it back on.  Any feedback is
appreciated.

Create a shortcut to the app to use to start it, and set the properties of
the shortcut to "run as administrator" You will have to boot to safe mode to
create the shortcut with that property available.

I have my Command Prompt icon on the start menu set to 'run as admin', and I
use the prompt to start IE without protected mode.

Mark,
I run everything as admin. I am the sole user of the pc. Program in quest.
is weather channel desktop.
I am still learning all Vista's *idiosyncrasies*. Didn't even think of a
short cut for Command prompt,
even if I did have it in XP. Guess I just got used to Run>cmd

What do you mean by "I run everything as admin."? If you're saying your acct
is a member of the local admin group, that is different than "running as
admin." The local admin group has limited adm rights.

Lang,
Excuse my ignorance here. But my machine has really just 1 acct. The admin.
acct.
I check the properties and it seems to have ALL rights. I know Vista is
supposed to be
*more* secure. But I'd think if you tell it trust the program it shouldn't
ask you every day.

Unless you specifically enable the built in Administrator account, you won't
see it to log into it. The administrator accounts you create in User
Accounts aren't the same thing.

Thank you... point I was attempting to make without going into micro
detail...

Thanks for being *nice* about it <g>. Sometimes more detail helps those less
technically inclined<g>.

While other might object, I -do- attempt to be nice about stuff in this NG.
Sometimes it is hard to determine when more detail, rather than less detail,
is required. In any case, hope your question is answered. If not... post
back.

Larry,

I had the same problem with weather channel desktop.  I suspect it isn't
fully compatible with Vista yet.  Have you considered the weather channel
sidebar gadget?  I know it's more convienient to see the temp in the tray but
I don't get the prompts with the gadget (and it's quite a bit larger).  There
are also other weather sidebar gadgets, I just trust weather channel more
then most.

Myron, Thanks for the tip. I currently have the sidebar off. So I am not
using any gadgets yet.
I do like Weather Ch. better as you said. I know I had Weather Bug on my Xp
machine and removed it foe Weather Ch.

Drop IE & Symantec.  I only use IE for Windows Update.  And I dropped all
Symancrap products long ago, and I've had a much happier computing
experience ever since.

If you're running Vista, then Windows Update no longer operates through
Internet Explorer. This is one of the reason why Vista is more secure
than XP.

Peter, This doesn't seem to be the case on my sys. at least.
I go to Start>WinUpdate and IE Is launched...
RalfG - 17 Mar 2008 16:57 GMT
Launches the Windows Update applet in Control Panel here. Path is
%SystemRoot%\system32\wuapp.exe

Stacks with Control Panel and Explorer windows in Taskbar as well, not IE.

I am having the same problem as Larry M with the weather channel but I am
wondering why when I turn the computer on the temp shows in the taskbar but
later it asks for permission to run.
