When I commence a skype call volume starts going down until muted. I have to
turn it on manually and then it works. Until the next call.
The problem started after I installed drivers for Microsoft Live Chat USB
Headset.
After these drivers removal and skype reinstallaion the problem still
persists.

Any suggestion is very much appriciated

In the Options for the USB headset, is there anything like a setting to
automatically adjust the mic level?  If so, disable it.

I have the same problem as Vladimir.

Skype automatically switches the recorder and playback from my settings to
Sigmatel and mutes the sound.

This happens despite:

a) Unchecking - Let Skype adjust my audio settings
b) Choosing Windows Default Device in microphone, speakers and ringing.

I note in another forum...  (MSDN Forums » Audio and Video Development »
Media Foundation Development » Programatically setting the default playback
device (and recording device)) ..... that setting the default playback and
recording device is not allowed in Vista. Then how come Skype is able to do
it?

Rgds, Kashi
