hi there,
is there any chance to make changes in the restart & shutdown process
of vista itself? i need to first disconnect an usb-device before
restarting or shutting down - otherwise i´ll end up in a bluescreen. at
the moment i´m using a batchfile for shutting down (devcon-command to
disconnect, then shutdown.exe) and try not to restart, but well - that´s
not the best solution at all :( that´s why i want vista to include this
devcon-command before shutting down or restarting.

any help or idea would be appreciated - thanks in advance,
marvin.

You can use a Logoff or Shutdown script to do it automatically, but UAC in
Vista complicates things, but there are workarounds.  First of all, what
version of Vista do you have?  I do not think that home versions have the
Group Policy editor, gpedit.msc, but even then, there is possibly a way to
add the script in the registry.

hi there, thanks for your reply.
i´ve solved the problem a couple of hours ago, just wanted to mark this
here as solved as i read your message :)
indeed i used the gpedit.msc to insert my script into the
shutdown-process. i´m using vista business, so no probs at all - and
well, it works out fine now.

now my usb-device is disabled just in time and becomes enabled just
before vista starts up again.

so, anyway - again thanks for your reply and those who come up with
bluescreens at shutdown: check out your usb-devices ;) in best case you
may solve this the way i did and now, finally, enjoy vista :)
