The notebook is Medion MODEL: MIM2300 NOTEBOOK PC MD96662.
Soundcard seems to be "some" Realtek. I only have 'Realtek HD audio manager'
installed and dito drivers. All sorts of audio settings available but
nothing related to MIDI!
Although I can play MIDI files, at least I want to be able to assign
sountfonts, as this is called a "multimedia notebook"...

Try this website tutorial. I had a lot of the same issues when I first
got a VISTA machine. This was posted in here when I asked for help
roughly 6 mos ago.
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2007/01/15/how-to-enable-wave-out-
recording-in-vista/
It may not seem to help at first. But it did open a lot new options that
after fiddling with finally got me to where I needed to be.
This may or may not help. Just a friendly suggestion.
