I have unstalled a Belkin Easy transfer cable and connected the old (Windows
XP)  to the new (Vista), and the new says the cable is working but nothing is
happening. The wizard on the old is trying to connect but the new doesn't
seem to know it's there. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the USB Root Hub
device(s), Action menu, "Uninstall", (do Not put a check in 'delete driver')
then Action menu, "scan for hardware changes", to find the device drivers
again automatically.
