::hi,  this may seem stupid to people but it’s enough to drive me nuts
if it’s not supposed to happen,  before splash screen on Vista,  where
it tells you much Ram you have on pc etc,   does it have a flashing _  .
I know it seems stupid to some people but it IS enough to drive me nut
if it’s not supposed to happen.  I have Vista Home Premium,  can anyone
try this for me please?::

::Thanks in Advance::

You're saying that when you first start your computer and it is going
through the POST (Power On Self Test), your screen is flashing? No, this
doesn't normally happen and no, this has nothing to do with Vista. The
operating system (Vista) isn't even loaded yet.

You've got a hardware issue; since you told us nothing about your computer
or whether this has just started happening, that's all I can say. If this
is a desktop computer, attach it to a different monitor and see if that
fixes it. If it doesn't, then there's probably something going on with the
video card. If it's important to you, contact the computer mftr.'s tech
support or take the machine to a local computer repair shop.

The op seems to be talking about the flashing cursor hence "Flashing _ " in
the subject line.
The underscore is not a typo.

The underscore in the OP's question is there to represent the flashing
cursor he's asking about.  In MS DOS (or any command-line interface)
flashing cursor is a typical feature.....

In the case of the system running Vista, it is normal to see it for the few
seconds that the POST comes up.

Alternatively, you can change the option in the BIOS to show the
motherboard/computer's splash screen (usually the manufacturer's logo
screen), rather than the detailed P.O.S.T information.

At this stage of the proceedings Windows Vista hasn't even started to load,
so your 'flashing' issue is not Vista connected, it is more than likely to
be a hardware problem (video card?)

On my own machine (which is only 4 months old) I can occasionally boot the
machine and the monitor will flash Red, Green and Blue without any text
displayed, but a quick re-boot sorts the problem and everything boots
normally. This, incidentally only happens occasionally, so I'm not
particularly worried about it - even though the machine is still under
warranty. I'm planning on upgrading the video card anyway when I can find
time to do it:-)

I believe he is talking about the flashing (underline) _ .
I see this for a short time in my system.
