I want to be able to keep the search pane in 'My Documents' or other folders in view all the time
instead of having to keep going to 'Layout' and selecting it each time I want to use it.

thanks guys

Searches can be saved (File menu) but when you are viewing 'Documents'
folders you are not In search, you are in a folder.

So you're saying I can not make the search pane stay in view all the time in Documents?
When I select the Layout to always show the Preview Pane or Navigation Pane or Detail Pane, they
show all the time, but Search Pane does not... so this is not possible then?

Right. The search pane is only available when in a search folder. Open a
documents folder, and type X in the search box. You will then see a search
pane in layout, but not till then.

no, in Documents I can have the search pane show when I go to organize then layout. It shows it and
I can select it to show. I don't need to type anything in the search box. the other panes will
permanently show all the time, search pane doesn't.

Oh well, I will try to Google my question and see what I get.

Thanks Mark
