Are Windows Users Scared

I was thinking that Windows users are paranoid or maybe outright
scared.  If you mention Dual Boot in any Linux group the users listen to
what is said and many take that into consideration and in fact dual boot
there computers when there is an advantage for them.

Maybe they recognize that notwithstanding Linux being a better and more
true (Unix based) operating system that Windows does have a place and
may benefit them in many areas.

But it is many of the Windows proponents that want to treat Windows like
a religion.  The mere mention of dual boot sends many of them in a
tizzy.  And the lower life ones start running their filthy mouth for
they have nothing else to say for that requires intelligence.

You see there are many things that Windows is lacking where a dual boot
to a Linux OS may be of benefit.  I was curious about Linux and was
really getting fed up with wasting a lot of money on Windows software
every time I wanted to improve my system.

The first thing I did was run the nondestructive live CD using the
Ubuntu distro.  I thought it had possibilities so I then installed it as
a dual boot.  After a month I found myself going to Windows about once a
week and usually for programming functions and photography.

Now I never go to Windows unless I am working or need to some special
function where I need to use Windows software.

Still the issue is why do Linux users accept dual boot and do not go
into a tizzy while users who prefer Windows have a tizzy at the mention
of dual boot.  Everyone, who even favors Windows, knows that the OS has
many security issues, locks up frequently, has poor memory management,
is full of buffer overflows, requires frequent reboots, and now is
priced way to high.  Then there is the inconvenient copy protection
forced on to paying customers by Microsoft who treats their customers
like second class citizens.  Then there is the issue of little or no
support.

More than a few of the people helping in this newsgroup do dual boot to
another OS, in some cases Linux. There are also some here who work almost
exclusively on Macs..

BUT, this is a Microsoft Vista newsgroup. People come here to help and be
helped with Microsoft Vista. That surely can't be beyond your comprehension?

Which is why many recommend nuking Vista and dual booting with XP and
Ubuntu. This *is* help, Mike, just not the help you like and is
obviously way beyond your comprehension.

Obviously what you post is not wanted by people in the Vista group.  You
just don't have the ability to realize that fact.  Ubuntu is nothing but a
blip on the radar and is just a TOY OS used by teenage kids who can't get
dates.  Ubuntu is FREE and most people don't want it.  Those that think
Ubuntu is worth anything, download it and install it.  Once they figure out
what a piece of crap Ubuntu is, they quickly remove it from their PC and
stick with what they have.  Windows.

You are just an annoying troll.  Why not go help people in the ubuntu
forums?  They surely need help trying to get their crappy Ubuntu working.

there are Microsoft XP newsgroups and Linux forums.

It seems the one obsessed with trying to censor what's said in the
newsgroup are people like YOU. Since this is a GENERAL Vista group it
should dawn on the dimmer bulbs of this group that some may come here
before buying or upgrading. Accordingly Vista's negative aspects and
alternatives platforms are appropriate topics. Shame the fanboy club
is so thin skinned and anal they can't handle anyone pointing out
Vista failings. Why is that Mike?

Not a linux POS or XP ng.

Somebody else that's incapable of exercising self control. Last time I
checked it was still impossible for anyone to force you to read
anyone's post. You do so at your own free will. So if you're annoyed
by some poster or topic all that says about you is you have no will
power. A common ailment that inflicts many in newsgroups.

Damn funny if you ask me. You want somebody to control who posts what
because you have no control yourself over what you decide to read.

The dribble that Alias typed:

You are full of crap.  Most Vista users have heard of Linux and want NOTHING
to do with that piece of crap.  Hence, your annoying spamming each and every
day does nothing to get users to switch to an OS that is WORTHLESS.  Ubuntu
is FREE and nobody wants it.  Gotta tell you something.  Actually, that

brains worth anything.

If true (it isn't) then you would be getting exiting for nothing. Your
logic makes absolutely no sense. Since you can't seem to stop bitching
about Alias it proves two things. #1 He really gets to you and # 2 it
leads one to believe you're really a control freak that thinks he has
some right to decide who gets to say what in a public newsgroup. Sorry
bub, that isn't how Usenet works.

If Alias was trying to spam this newsgroup with some qet rich quick
scheme or anything really off-topic, then maybe you'd have a point.
Since he's simply bringing up an alternative to Vista some may be
interested in hearing about it. As far as being off-topic your endless
bitching about Alias and your non stop juvenile comments is far more
disruptive as is Frank's constant rants. Of course I'd never expect
either of your dim bulbs to "get it".

>Hence, your annoying spamming each and every

The real issue is buttheads like you not having the mental skills to
skip over posts and posters that clearly bug you. Why do you suppose
you lack such elementary skills?

This is your opinion, of course.
But WHY would alternatives to Vista be on-topic in a Microsoft
newsgroup devoted to using Vista?

I certainly see no reason for it, since there are thousands of
newsgroups and other forums devoted to Linux.

>> If people want to revert back to
>> XP, there are Microsoft XP newsgroups and Linux forums.
>
>Most Vista users have never heard of Linux or Ubuntu. Hence, my noble

This is simply not true.  Linux is all over the Web.  If they do not
know about it, they simply don't surf the Web very often.  And I do
not believe they aren't surfing the Web.

They know about it, for sure, but simply do not act on what they've
read, since Linux is just not a good Desktop system.  PERIOD.

I am sure most users of these Microsoft groups are already used to
your Anti-Microsoft Linux "advocacy" by now.

"Alias", while your "misson" may or may not be noble, it is certainly
condemned to failure, since Linux is NOT yet a decent Desktop OS, for
the simple fact that MOST of it's apps are always in a continual state
of alpha or beta, and are usually very buggy.

Additionally, it is MUCH harder to install software/hardware in Linux
than it is in Windows.

Windows users simply DON'T like configuring their hardware using
text-mode files.

I am sure folks like yourself love Linux.  But Windows users do not
like Linux, since it is so difficult to configure and maintain.

Until Linux has the ease of operation of Windows, it will remain in
the nether-world of hobbyists, where it properly belongs, anyway.

For the same reason somebody suggesting Tylenol or Aleve in a group
discussing aspirin.

People need to broaden their horizons. For example, most people have
heard of Adobe's Photoshop and few would doubt it is the most used
choice of professionals. I have it, but I also recommend GIMP which
was developed originally on the Linux platform and later ported to
Windows. It is in many respects every bit as good as Photoshop in a
few areas even better. It's totally free. If nobody mentioned it in
groups previously devoted to other software products it would have
died on the vine. That would have been a shame.

The point that zooms over the heads of the Microsoft faithful is for
some people, I dare say for many, Vista or any form of Windows isn't
necessary. So why shouldn't people be aware of alternatives?

While Alias constantly beating the drum for a particular flavor of
Linux may be annoying to some it isn't any more so than the hot headed
clowns that have some need to attack him and others for speaking out
against Vista's flaws. Noise is noise.

Remember this is a PUBLIC newsgroup. Nobody is in charge and any dope

FALSE. It's much easier. It's much easier to install too.

I haven't used text-mode files hardly at all and with the new version, I
didn't use it even once. I like the GUI and it works better than XP or
Vista. I don't like having to have CDs around and prefer to be able to
install the programs I want from a repository.

Sorry, but more FUD, lies and ignorance. Ubuntu is more user friendly
than XP or Vista.

Now, maybe if you install it and use it for awhile, you can clear up
your ignorance. Or do you believe the FUD too much and that prevents you

Right! Here is an example of WinCrap.  I could not write to a  file in a
folder because they were read only.  So I went into MyComputer /
Explorer and found the folder.  I then went to properties and found it
was marked read only.  I then unclicked read only and got a dialog box
asking me to confirm and wanting to know if the change should be applied
to all files and sub folders.  I clicked on yes and OK and the folder
and file appeared to be unchecked for read only.  I then went back into
properties for the folder that was supposed to be writable and the read
only box was checked again.

This is the typical crap you waste your time on in Windows.  You do not
have these kind of problem with Linux.

Most of the issues with Linux is lack of good support from Hardware
Vendors.  You really need to be selective.  But once you get all working
it just runs and runs.

No chance, they keep them in until they are cured he was let out so he
served his sentence.
He will probably get a longer sentence if he is caught exposing himself
again.

It is also a GENERAL group meaning any topic even those remotely
connected with Vista are fair game.

Again, the issue is clear enough. The fanboy crowd simply goes nuts if
anyone exposes Vista for what it is... If Vista was half as good as
some claim then you wouldn't get so upset. It is BECAUSE Vista has so
many faults that you really get upset and don't want anybody talking
about it. This of course is what drives nut cases like Frank crazy.

Do you really think that most people here want to dual boot to Linux?  Give
it a rest.  If you want to play with Linux then play.  Window users are not
scared of Linux or that Piece of crap OS, Ubuntu.  Just a blip on the radar
at Microsoft.  Remember, Linux/Ubuntu is FREE and nobody wants it.  That has
got to tell you that it's a piece of crap.

That is why the state of Vermont ditched Windows and went to Red Hat.

I use Vista and Ubuntu, both systems have their own strength and weaknesses
similar to IE7 and other browsers. Now we all can benefit from using Safari
as well, its pretty nippy and good looks.

It's the inbreeding. You see, Frank's mother is his father's daughter.

You are correct.  Dual boot is when the army gives you two boots.  One for
the left foot and one for the right foot.  Make sure not to put them on the
wrong feet.
